Lamayuru Monastery – A Wonderful Attraction to Visit on Ladakh Trips in India

Often known as the Yuru Gompa, the Lamayuru Monastery is one of the most important attractions and Buddhist monasteries to see on Ladakh organized excursions in India. Set in Kargil district in Western Ladakh in the Indian province of Jammu & Kashmir, Lamayuru Gompa is one of the earliest and biggest monasteries in Ladakh with capability to produce permanent dwelling over 450 monks. More than 150 monks are staying inside this renowned monastery of Lamayuru.

The Lamayuru Gompa consisted originally of five complexes, and some continues to be of the four corner establishments can still be seen. Lamayuru is host to 2 annual masked dancing festivals. It is extremely widely known for annual dance masked festival. The monastery is frequented by lots of domestic and international travelers each year.

Besides monastery, Lamayuru is also famous among trekkers. It provides some fantastic trekking trails including Darcha to Lamayuru Trek, Lamayuru to Darcha Trek, Lamayuru to Alchi Trek, Alchi to Lamayuru Trek, Padum to Lamayuru Trek, etc. Close by Alchi Monastery and Wanla Monastery are also preferred among tourists. Undeniably, Lamayuru is a must see attraction of Ladakh journeys in India.
